This was a very special project in East London. The client: who was an interior designer herself, took the responsibility of the interior alterations which consisted of demolition of internal bearing walls and chimney breasts. The challenge was the height restriction, which forced us to use only low profile steel sections, ie hidden beams with height less than the existing timber structure in the first floor. Because of the low profile steel sections, top steel plates were necessary to support the chimney breasts on its full width in order to provide full structural support for the brickwork above. Beams couldn’t fit in the house because of the internal walls, so we were asked to design splice connections, which we were happy to make.
